Tony becomes absorbed in a bizarre chain of murders in which each perpetrator in turn becomes the next victim, but the unusual modus operandi of beating, strangulation and shooting - always with the same gun - remains the same. Completely caught up in the case, he fails to pick up dark hints from cannibal Michael, whom he helped to convict, that he is planning to escape from the secure unit where he is held.
