Laura Burney seems to have the perfect life: a stunning house and a loving husband, Martin. Except he is a psycopath who savagely beats her if a bathroom towel is wrongly folded. Fearing for her life, she fakes her death by drowning and flees to a small town in Iowa to begin a new life, which includes being courted by her neighbour Ben Woodward. But Martin slowly realises her ruse and begins to track her down and, if he finds her, she really will be dead...
