The arrest and criminal investigation into local man Mark Bridger, who blindsided the police with his explanation for his involvement in April's disappearance. As the media descended on Machynlleth to report the story, the specialist volunteers continued to search for the child further afield in the mountainous landscape, caves and surrounding mineshafts with no luck in finding her.
